Cross Track Error (XTE)
Cross Track Error (XTE) occurs when your vessel
is steered or drifts off its original course (track). The distance
between your original course and your current position is the Cross
Track Error (XTE).
Cross Track ErrorXTEThe Cross Track Error is relative to the track and not the vessel heading. Therefore, Cross Track Error values are specified in terms of distance to the left or right of the track.

When a Cross Track Error exists, you can steer your vessel back on to its original track, or you can restart the Cross Track Error value and use your current position as the starting point for a new track.
