SeaTalk HS

SeaTalk HS is a high speed Ethernet-based marine network which allows compatible equipment (such as devices with an RJ45, RayNet, or RJ45 SeaTalk HS connector) to communicate rapidly and share large amounts of data.

Information shared via the SeaTalk HS network includes, but is not limited to:

  • Shared cartography (between compatible displays).

  • Digital radar data.

  • Sonar data.

RayNet

Electrically, RayNet is identical to SeaTalk HS, and the two share the same underlying Ethernet protocol.

Connector types

SeaTalk HS connections can be made using one of three different connector types:

  • RJ45

  • Waterproof RJ45 SeaTalk HS

  • Waterproof RayNet

All SeaTalk HS connector types are interchangeable, in terms of compatibility with devices featuring an RJ45 SeaTalk HS, RayNet, or RJ45 connector. However, the main difference between them is that RJ45 SeaTalk HS connectors are generally not waterproof, unless you select Raymarine cables which use the specific waterproof variant RJ45 connectors. However, all connections featuring RayNet connectors are waterproof.

The different SeaTalk HS connector types are shown below:

Connector

Description

RayNet. This connector type is waterproof.

Waterproof RJ45 SeaTalk HS for connection to (legacy) Raymarine equipment featuring a lockable RJ45 SeaTalk HS connector. Alternatively, these cables may be coupled with suitable adapter cables for waterproof connections to equipment featuring a RayNet connector.

RJ45. This connector type is NOT waterproof.

Where required, adapter cables are available to connect RayNet devices to devices featuring an RJ45 or RJ45 SeaTalk HS connector.
